On July 20, 2010, Antonio Flores recalled a children’s product. Federal safety tests revealed designs defects on its baby pacifiers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also issued a report to warn consumers of the dangers associated with the infant items.
Infant Pacifiers Recalled by Antonio Flores
The kids’ product listed under the recall was the Karino Baby Pacifiers. The pacifiers were sold in grocery stores located in Texas and California. Produced from October 2009 to March 2010, the products were sold at 25 cents each.
The pacifiers were available in white, pink, or blue. A long ring comprised the handle of the item. The word Karino could be found on the handle. The nipple was a natural color and filled with corn syrup.
Defects in Baby Pacifiers Sold at Grocery Stores
According to information released by Antonio Flores, no reports of injury or incident were received based on the use of the baby product. However, additional testing found that the pacifiers failed to meet federal standards in several areas.
It was discovered that the nipples were improperly attached to the handles on the baby pacifiers. Once detached, the nipple could create a serious choke hazard for an infant using the product. The handle was also too long, according to federal safety standards.
The mouth guards were too small to protect the baby from injury. These were designed to prevent the child from placing any portion of the pacifiers, beyond the nipple, in the mouth. The small size of the guard did not restrict placement into the throat if the guard was in a child’s mouth. The guard also did not have holes for breathing.
