The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a children’s product recall on January 13, 2011 for Bumbleride strollers. Several reports were received that the infant strollers were defective and posed a safety risk for young children. In order to promote safety, Bumbleride Incorporated also issued a recall to warn as many consumers as possible and has offered a solution for the defect.
Single and Double Strollers Recalled by Bumbleride
The kids’ products listed under the recall include both the Indie and Indie Twin Strollers from Bumbleride. The company is based in San Diego, California. A structural defect was found on both models that could cause harm to a child using the stroller. The infant strollers were available from Buy Buy Baby and other baby stores across the United States. Consumers could also purchase the children’s item directly from the company website.
The strollers were available from January 2009 to January of 2012. They could range in price from $500 to $700. The single strollers included in the recall are model numbers I-107, I-110, and I-205. The strollers were sold in a variety of different colors. All models had a sticker on the side of the seat that displayed the manufacturing date.
The double strollers had the model number of IT-108, IT-111, or IT-305. Similar to the single versions, the twin strollers were made in many different colors. The stickers for the double strollers were attached under the handle. Both models under the recall have manufacturing dates from January 2009 to August 2011.
Defects Found in Baby Strollers From a California Based Company
Bumbleride Incorporated released the information that 36 incidents were received based on normal use of the toddler item. Two reports were linked to minor injuries with the children using the item. All reports sited the front wheel breaking.
The front wheel on both models is prone to break while transporting a child. Because of the unexpected change in the wheel, the entire stroller would become unstable. The resulting fall after the wheel had broken has lead to some minor injuries.
Actions to Take Following Recall of Kids’ Strollers
Both the single and double models are unsafe for children and should not be used in the current condition. The strollers should be stored until the company can be contacted and a replacement wheel is substituted.
Consumers may contact the company at (800) 530-3930 during their business hours of 8am and 4pm, Monday through Friday. Bumbleride may also be contacted directly at support@bumbleride.com.
